In December 2019 I felt deep in my blood and my bones that in March the next year something would happen on a world stage. I knew in my gut I needed to move and be elsewhere when that moment would hit the collective. So I trusted my gut and intuition, spend lots of time in silence and listen to that quiet inner voice within.
Around Januari 2020, I knew I had to travel towards the South of Spain by car by March 2020.
I opened the map and pure upon intuition I chose my final end destination. It was Orgiva in the Alpujarra mountains.
To get me to that destination, I decided I wanted to buy a little, compact Van, so I went to the local garage together with my dad who would assist me and advice me on which car to pick.
A black Volkswagen Caddy caught both our attention and we asked for the price at the friendly owner of the car garage, who later became a good friend.
It was € 4000.
The issue was, I only had € 3000 on my bank account and my father wasn’t planning on sponsoring me any time soon.
Immediately he said - it’s not possible - one of his favorite mantras by the way :).
I thought - not in my world - and I told him to wait, sit tight and let me do the talking :)
So I went to negotiate with the owner who was afterwards willing to sell me the car for € 3000 and
I told him a would get back to him later that day.
On our way home my dad advised me to not do it, it was too risky, I wouldn’t have any savings left and I wouldn’t be able to support myself along the way.
Later that night I send the owner a message with the confirmation I was going to buy the car ..
Fast forward to 1 week: a letter from the Belgian government ended up in my mailbox with the note I was about to receive € 3000 back on taxes, hahaha, kaboom !
Anyway, after my dad's birthday on the 8th of March I left and hit the road where a new adventure awaited me.
To my surprise, all campsites along my journey through Spain appeared to be closed, so I spend most of the nights sleeping at parking spots in little villages as this was way before I discovered the app park for night :).
At some point in the evening I arrived in Torrevieja where the Guardia cevil was shouting through the loudspeakers that everyone needed to get inside for the curfew of 10 o'clock due to a new virus that was spreading across the lands. I have to admit I shat my pants there for a bit. I was sleeping in the middle of a neighborhood in the back of a Volkswagen Caddy and I didn’t even spoke any Spanish. Anyway, it was quiet the adventure, I'll tell ya.
In the morning I new I had to make a very important decision for myself. So I decided to make me a nice cup of coffee, do my morning practice and tune in to see what my next move would be as I felt the pressure in the air of the Virus spreading across the lands.
I knew in my gut I needed to drive towards my final destination by that evening or I wouldn’t make it.
And so I did.
It was a long, exhausting 5 hour drive as I was lacking some good sleep the nights before and I felt a bit worn out from unexpected closed campsites and all the Virus spreading information. Along the way the highways were desolated. It was a rather surreal experience as they announced about the dangers of the Virus on the highway information billboards giving the advice to stay at home and lock your doors. And while I drove along these never-ending miles and miles of Alicantes vegetable crops, I was hoping and praying that the Orgiva campsite would be open by the time I arrived there.
Around 5 pm late afternoon I arrived at the campsite and the reception was closed but had a note to choose a spot and come back later when they reopened.
Oh my goddess, I can’t explain the relief I felt when I parked up my car and was finally able to breathe, relax and feel the excitement of a woman who made it to her final destination.
Yihaaaaah !
The next morning, the whole country went in lockdown.
